It flourished as a highly revered shrine among samurai such as Minamoto no Yoritomo and Tokugawa Ieyasu. Today, it is widely known as a sacred place for good luck, protection from misfortune, and the fulfillment of wishes, as well as for ensuring safe travels.

The sub-shrine, Kuzuryu Shrine, enshrines the guardian deity of Lake Ashi, Kuzuryu Daimyojin. It is highly respected as a deity with great influence in matters of financial fortune, business prosperity, and matchmaking.
